Seeing with your mind

I’m going tSubconscious-vs-consciouso start my very first post with an old Indian story that growing up as a boy scout I’ve heard around the campfires and this would be a perfect place to have it to start off this blog…

From what I have found the story came from the Nanticoke Indian Tribe and I have no idea if that is where it actually originated but it’s where I found it and if your interested in the website click here

To set up the story I will tell it to you as I heard it as a boy sitting around a campfire.  Boy scouts seem to do things revolving around different Indian traditions.  So here we are like 25 boys about 12 -13 and we grew up in the city so out in the woods is not a familiar place…so you can imagine how tense we were.  As you sat there pretty much the front of your body was warm while the other side of your body was cold…it was weird and not over comfortable…but bearable.  There were only like two Adults there the scout master and one of the kid’s dad…and he looked Indian to us but back then who really knew…surely not us.

The Indian man started…”It all began in woods similar to these over 100 years ago as a young brave sat at the fire with his grandfather…the young brave was complaining about the cold how he, was like you boys are, cold on that back side and hot on the front side.  Grandfather looked over at the young brave as a smirk came to his face and he said “you remind me of the story my grandfather told me about the spirit’s of two wolves.”  The young braves eyes lit up as he looked up at his grandfather and said… “Really grandfather…what two wolves…what story…what spirits…will you tell me the story…what’s it about”

“Calm down my son” the old Indian said as he continued.  “A long time ago it was explained to me by my grandfather the two wolves represented the spirits within us always battling between themselves…and it must be true because I see it still happening today among our people.  It’s a very hard battle and it’s always going on within us all the time.

Neither one is bad they are just opposing sides for one is filled with anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ultimately ego.  The other wolf is filled with   goodness, joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, gratefulness, belief and faith.  The two spirits dwell among each and every one of us battling to win out” and the grandfather bowed his head and sat there in silence…

The young brave sat that watching his grandfather until it was just two much for him and he said to his grandfather… “Which spirit wins grandfather…tell me which wolf wins out.”  The grandfather raised his head smiling at the boy said well it depends…”  “depends on what grandfather…depends on what”, the young brave anxious asked.  His grandfather stood up and turn away from the boy for it had been a long night and it was time for him to get some rest…as he walked away the boy just hung is head in thought.

Finally, the old Indian grandfather turned back to the boy and said…the one you feed most is the one that wins…

So which are you feeding…and maybe it time we take a good look into what is inside each and everyone of us…

Thank you for stopping by…
